Surtaal app logo

The Alankar section in the Surtaal app offers an exceptional space to practice Alankars in all 12 Scales, across 10 Thaats, and with 62 Taals. Here’s a detailed look at its powerful features:

  1. Select Scales, Taals and Thaats

At the top, you can effortlessly change Scales, Taals, and Thaats using the dropdown menus. The options are neatly presented, making it simple to choose exactly what you need for your practice.

  1. Versatile Notation Display

The notation display is versatile, showing patterns in both Devanagari and Roman scripts, ensuring that users of all backgrounds can easily follow along. Below this, a compact text box highlights essential details such as the current pattern, Taal, Tanpura pattern, and more. You can switch languages between Devanagari and English via a quick toggle in the upper right corner. Next to this, the favorites section—marked by a heart icon—lets you quickly access your most-loved Alankars for repeated practice.

  1. Basic, Medium, Advance, Special and Custom Alankars

The lower half of the interface offers even more control over your practice. You can choose alankar patterns ranging from basic to advanced, depending on your riyaz needs, with a dedicated section for special Alankars. There’s also a space for Custom Patterns, where your personally designed Alankars are neatly listed, allowing you to practice notations tailored to your own style and needs.

  1. BPM, Volume Sliders and Extra features

At the bottom, you have access to a range of controls, such as adjusting the tempo to suit your pace. The volume sliders let you fine-tune the sound levels for String, Tanpura, and Tabla individually. You can easily play/pause, skip to the next or previous alankar, and even adjust the speed—doubling or halving it to match your practice intensity.

Conclusion

The Alankar section of the Surtaal app offers a versatile platform for Indian classical music practice. From adjusting Scales, Taals, and Thaats to creating custom patterns, the app ensures flexibility in riyaz. The integration of multiple scripts, volume control, and tempo adjustments further enhances the user experience. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced musician, Surtaal provides the perfect toolkit for optimum Alankar practice.
